CCA and GM Records Invite for the Projection
The Archive of Polish Experimental Film was established at the Centre of Contemporary Art in the year 2000. It is a research project focusing on the analysis of “the media aspect” of the Polish Art, the experimental cinema produced from the 1920’s till now as well as the artistic performances created in the electronic media environment.
Under the cooperation commenced, GM Records has undertaken to press free of charge the DVDs presenting the most valuable collections of the Archive.
- The objective which the Archive follows is to collect, maintain, renovate, and reconstruct different types of Polish media arts forms of expression. We are very glad about entrusting GM Records with such types of endeavours since it is an absolute proof of recognition for our capabilities. The initiators of the Project had to be convinced about our professionalism and technological advancement of the services we offer. Besides, we consider the cooperation with the Archive the Polish Experimental Film within the categories of prestige – it is our small contribution to the cultural heritage – says Matylda Nosowska, Marketing Specialist at GM Records.
Public presentations (projections, shows) as well as the development of theoretical and historical comment on the materials collected are also a very important aspect of the activity carried out by the Archive of Polish Experimental Film. All such initiatives are of cyclical character.
The soonest projection of the film will take place on Thursday, April 21, 2005, at 6.00 pm in the Cinema/Auditorium Hall in the Centre of Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle. During the meeting, the film by Zdzisław Sosnowski – “Goalkeaper – pop trends in the Polish experimental film of the 1970’s” will be projected. Free entry. Everybody is welcome.
Zdzisław Sosnowski was one of the most important personalities of the Polish artistic neo-avangard of the 1970’s. In his film achievement, after the first conceptual and analytical experiments from the beginning of the 1970’s, he focused mainly on the analysis of the contemporary pop culture. He created the well-known cycle of films - Goalkeaper, referring to the football stars media publicity, prefiguring to a great extent the interest in the commercial sphere of the pop culture present in the works of the 1990’s video artists. Besides, Sosnowski was the founder of such artistic groups as: the Gallery of Actual Art, the Association of Polish Film Makers; he was also the manager of the Art Institutions: the Modern Gallery, the Studio Gallery. In the year 1978, he emigrated to France.
