Cracow Jazz Fall 2011 Under Our Patronage
The sixth edition of the Cracow Jazz Fall is approaching and promises to be very impressive this year. It is currently the only jazz festival in Poland, which focuses exclusively on contemporary improvised music and free jazz genre. GM Records, for many years involved in the manufacturing and production of CDs for Polish and foreign jazz artists, took the honorary patronage over the festival.
Promotion of this music genre was the main aim of the festival from the very beginning. It all began with the performance of Vandermark 5 on the stage of Cracow Alchemia but through five editions of the festival the biggest jazz stars of international stature and over 150 musicians performed their concerts in Cracow. Among them is the legendary Anthony Braxton, Joe McPhee, Charles Gayle and Peter Brötzmann
During each edition there arise new projects on the stage that have their world premieres over the festival. The special project to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Barry Guy New Orchestra and realized entirety during the festival international project CJF Resonance rank among the biggest of them.
This year's edition promises to be equally interesting. The program of the Sixth Fall Festival will surely satisfy the fans of Ken Vandermark who will perform in a duo with Paal Nilssen-Love. Gerhard Ullmann, the master of a clarinet will play with the composition of the Conference Call, and saxophonist Trevor Watts - with pianist Veryan Weston. There is also planned a premiere performance by excellent band Edge with American violinist Jason Kao Hwang. One of the biggest events of this year edition of CJF is definitely the first since 1976 visit of Japanese avant-garde legend Akira Sakato and first in Poland concert of the Peter Brötzmann Japanese trio under the European celebrations of the artist's seventieth birthday.
