GM Records 15 years from Pioneer to Leader
GM Records was established in 1990. At that time, the Company employed 15 people who dealt with organisation of the audio tapes distribution. During one year, the range of the services offered was extended by the audio tapes manufacturing and confection of the already recorded tapes. The computer sales and accountancy management systems were introduced in the company during the next three years. In 1995, the GM Records Company invested in the Tapematic digital master which was used for MC tapes recording with a speed of 1:96, 1:128, 1:160. It was the first such a device in Poland and one of the first in Europe. In the same year, GM Records launched its publishing activities the greatest achievement of which was the series of disks and tapes called “Platinum Collection”, and which represented the works of the greatest Polish music stars of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. In 1998, the Company sold more than 4 million tapes, thereby becoming the leader among the phonographic companies officially operating on the Polish market and reporting their sales to the ZPAV (The Audio-Video Producers Association). For the next five years, GM Records took unchangeably the first or the second position declassing other Polish representatives of the worldwide music consortia in the ranking: BMG, EMI, Sony, Universal, Warner, and the CD of the Arka Noego band (the Noe’s Arc) “Daj na zgodę” (Let’s agree), released in 2003, achieved the platinum status for the sale of 116 thousand copies and reached the highest sale level in the country.
In 1999, there was a breakthrough in the Company’s activity. The first machines for the CDs pressing, printing and packaging were bought. The pressing equipment for DVDs was purchased in the 2002. The unavoidable marsh towards the achievement of the leader status in the field of optical discs pressing has commenced.
- During fifteen years of our activities, we have perfectly learnt the market rules governing the trade we deal with. We have made a very long way. For all that time, we have been actively analysing the directions of technological development and also quickly responded to all the changes. Since this year, we have started the implementation of the Company’s new development strategy which is based on a narrow specialization. We have ceased our publishing activities and the production of audio tapes. Today, GM Records is an expert in the field of pressing all types of optical discs – says Marek Grela, the Owner of GM Records.
At present, GM Records has specialised in the field of pressing all types of optical discs, it is the enterprise using a high-class equipment for the optical discs pressing, its own logistic base and the most valuable capital of more than 360 employees.
It is a company whose one of the main development directions involves the optimal usage of opportunities resulting from Poland’s accession to the European Union. After the first year of our country’s membership in the EU, approximately 40% of the orders realised by GM Records come from abroad.
- Since the very beginning of the Company’s existence, we have been analysing the directions of technological development. We have always made decisions concerning the development based on those analyses. For fifteen years, we have undertaken a number of investments in order to become leader in the field of offering the highest level services catching up with the development of modern technologies. The time has proved that our decisions have been right. What speaks for that is not only economic indicators but also a lot of awards that the company has achieved so far – comments Mariusz Szpunar, Sales and Marketing Manager at GM Records.
In April 2005, the Company was awarded the European Medal, the award that was the recommendation for the entirety of services offered. That award was granted by the most important institution dealing with Poland’s relations with the European Union – the Office of the Committee for European Integration and the Business Center Club. A month later, GM Records was honoured with the title of the Market Leader, in a company category, in a field of the CDs, DVDs, MC tapes manufacturing. The latest award obtained by GM Records is the title of the EURO LEADER 2005.
In the nearest future, the Company will relocate to the new office. The new investments in machines increasing the production powers will be undertaken. In order to consolidate its position on the Polish market and extend the Company’s presence on the EU markets, the Polish and international cooperation department will be developed.
