HD DVD - the new disc format offered by GM Records

It is forecast that the new HD format will revolutionize the market, driving out all together such popular disc formats as CD or perhaps even DVD.

High Definition DVD is an improvement on DVD. The HD DVD technology ensures the highest picture and sound quality available in the market. Thanks to increased disc capacity, the quality of recorded content has been enhanced beyond comparison. More content on one disc means not only ease of use, as large quantities of data are recorded on a single disc, but also a heightened sensory experience while watching images recorded in high definition.

‘As a modern disc pressing company, GM responds to the dynamics of the changing market, meeting the expectations of our clients. Production of the innovative HD DVD format is yet another step in the development strategy adopted in our company,’ says Marek Grela, the owner of GM Records.

HD DVD enables simultaneous reproduction of two separate video streams, which makes it possible, for example, to watch a movie and behind-the-scenes materials at the same time.

The authoring for the HD DVD format can be prepared in two versions: standard content or advanced content. The standard content is an extension to the DVD format. Advanced content supports a special programming language called iHD, thanks to which we can create all kinds of interactive functions, including simultaneous reproduction of two video streams.

Another advantage of introducing the HD technology is improved security. The CSS system used so far for DVD is not 100% secure. The new format makes it necessary to introduce improved safety solutions, which guarantees better protection of data on modern optical media.

From the point of view of the user, it is also notable that HD-DVD players support the regular DVD format.

The current production capacity of GM Records for HD DVD is 2.25 million disc per month. It is worth mentioning that the material supplied by the client for replication in the new format must be ready for the HD TV standards. The innovativeness and new features of the new format make it an attractive medium, because it can be used in many different ways.
